Safety & Health Management


POSCO considers safety a top-priority value of management and strives to create the world's leading safety culture with self-directed safety activities led by the employees. To this end, POSCO applies new technologies such as the IoT (Internet of Things) and makes effort to create a work environment that can more scientifically and effectively protect employees' safety and health.

Safety & health certification: KOSHA18001, OHSAS18001

To autonomously and systematically operate all activities related to safety and health control, POSCO obtained KO-SHA18001 and OHSAS18001 certifications for the safety and health management system. Accordingly, the company systematically implements safety-first business policies and safety measures based on the PDCA Cycle, constantly increasing the level of safety and health activities.

Safety education & training

To promote safety consciousness in employees and minimize risks, POSCO annually provides legally compulsory safety education for directly-managed departments and subcontractors. In addition, the company also provides customized training to develop safety competency required by each level.


Based on the philosophy that healthy employees make a healthy company, POSCO focuses on carrying out industrial sanitary activities in three fields: Health promotion, work environment, and disease treatment.

Health promotion

POSCO carries out no smoking, healthy drinking, lower obesity, low-sodium food, and no stress compaigns with the belief that employees' health leads to the company's competitiveness.

Industrial sanitary control

POSCO makes various efforts to maintain the internal and external work environment around workers in a pleasant condition, and to keep employees healthy and working in a clean environment. To resolve inconveniences with protective equipment used on the worksite, the company is cooperating with protective equipment manufacturers to improve convenience and performance, while also carrying out the Hearing Protection Program for work environments vulnerable to loud noise. The company also established health standards for enclosed areas such as the Healthy Work Program for Enclosed Space. For proper use of chemicals, POSCO also established and is strictly complying with the Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) according to the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labeling of Chemicals (GHS) standards.
