POSCO Group University held the 2017 New General Manager Program for Local Employees from August 21 to September 1.

In this program, 31 new general managers of 20 global offices of POSCO Group from 10 countries participated, including POSCO VST, ZPSS, and POSCO DAEWOO.

The 2017 New General Manager Program for Local Employees, which has been carried out based on the localization of human resources for global offices, is designed based on the pipeline for nurturing key local human resources. Starting this year, the general manager development program is being changed into the new appointee program, which consists mostly of contents that are absolutely necessary for newly appointed employees.

The program consists of 1) perceiving the role required by new local general managers, 2) understanding the corporate philosophy and strategies, and 3) cultivating leadership skills required for general managers (organizational performance, human resources management, cross-cultural communication).

In particular, the courses on organizational performance and human resources management were well received by the learners, because they seem to be contributing greatly to clearly perceiving the performance management process as a general manager and properly arranging human resources to attain the company's goals.

Moreover, OJT in collaborative departments is newly established to enhance collaboration among new local general managers and related departments at the headquarters and promote an overall work understanding.

The departments for the OJT were selected based on work relevance and educational needs of local offices. The program laid the groundwork for the creation of synergy with global offices with an in-depth understanding of tasks at the headquarters, arranging the participants in Pohang, Gwangyang and Seoul, and also with reinforced networking with counter partners.

POSCO Group University is currently offering systematic training programs to enhance specialized competencies of exemplary local employees, and plans to run the Change Agent program four times for the key human resources at the rank-and-file member level at global offices in the second half of the year.
