Development of a breakthrough technology to reduce CO2 emissions

The steel industry is one well-known for consuming a great deal of energy, but the energy efficiency of POSCO's processes is very high. Not only this, but there is a limit to its efforts at cutting back further on greenhouse gases through energy saving efforts only. Thus, POSCO is carrying out a mid-term technology development project, POSCO CO2 Breakthrough Framework, in order to reduce its CO2 emissions.

POSCO focuses its capacity and energy on the research and development of environmentally-friendly products that contribute to reducing greenhouse gases not only during the production processes, but also during their use. We strive to develop and supply energy-saving materials in increasing volumes, such as high-strength steel sheets for automobiles, and high-grade electrical steel plates.
